Menswear and fragrance designer Bijan Pakzad died Saturday after suffering a stroke Thursday night. He was 67.
An outgoing message at his Beverly Hills boutique said, "Today, Saturday April 16, 2011, at 8:05 a.m., our dear Dr. Bijan Pakzad passed away peacefully with his family members at his side."
No further details were given.
Two-time Beverly Hills mayor Jimmy Delshad later wrote on his Facebook page, "It is with great grief and sadness that I announce the passing of my dear friend Bijan Pakzad. He was an exceptional person and he will be greatly missed."
Bijan, as he was known, was a go-to fashion designer in the celebrity world. He dressed many of the world's most powerful figures, including President Obama, the Queen of England, Bill Clinton,Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Cruise and Bill Gates.
Born in Tehran, Iran, he studied in Switzerland and Italy before immigrating to the United States, where he opened Bijan, a boutique on the prestigious Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, Calif. that has since become known as the most expensive store in the world.
The company's website quotes Bijan as saying, "The world said to conform, the world said to settle for less, the world said to compromise and no one would know... so I made my own world."
